Fast Moving Targets is a crossmedia platform focused on ICT innovation. One of their projects is Top Names, an internet talkshow that explores the effects of digitalization on society. I was a guest on April 24 and talked with hosts Erwin Blom and Roeland Stekelenburg about hypes and hopes around the internet and young people. I argued that new media are not as important in young people’s lives as some media researchers and marketeers would like us to believe. Furthermore, it should be the talk of scholars to nuance hypes (such as those involving social media) rather than inciting them. We also talked about the effects of digitalization on research and education.
