More and more academics are turning to blogs and social media to increase the visibility of their work. They are right in doing so, as these media offer various opportunities that help shape, develop and improve upon research. Together with colleague Chris Aalberts, I participated in a seminar on the advantages of blogging and social media, organized for the PhD students of the Erasmus Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Humanities. In my contribution, I discussed thirteen reasons why academics should blog and tweet, all taken from academic research and academic blogs. The seminar was meant as a teaser for a more elaborate workshop that I’ll teach later this fall. My slides are available via Slideshare.
If you are an academic and interested in a workshop or seminar on blogs and social media for department or institute, feel free to contact me.
