Youth for Christ is a foundation that targets young people from 10 till 23 of different religious backgrounds. For their annual staff retreat, I provided a workshop on youth culture. We discussed the driving structural forces (e.g. decolonialization, the welfare state, mass media) behind older Dutch youth cultures such as nozems, provo’s and punks. Using scenario planning, we explored which developments (technological, social, political) might cause which trends to discuss the state of youth cultures in the near future.
